India- Australia Test Series Factoids

Where do the two teams stand and how do they look before the most anticipated series between Oz & Us!!!

India’s narrowest win by both runs and wickets in Test Cricket has come against Australia and that too in India.

13 India won by just 13 runs in 2004 when Australia couldn’t chase 107 on the turning wicket in Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

1 India defeated Australia by 1 wicket in 2010 in Mohali when VVS Laxman batted with tail-enders Ishant Sharma and PragyanOjha to secure the narrowest victory by wicket for India.

Michael Clarke is the most valuable player for Australia in the series, here’s why-

54.26 He has the best batting average in the current team against India.

34.00 He has the best bowling average among the spinners in the current team, he has taken 14 wickets in 18 matches (Nathan Lyon’s average is 41.57 against India, Xavier Doherty and Ashton Agar are yet to play against India)

Clarke’s two best efforts have come against India, 6/9in Mumbai in 2004 and 3/5 in the infamous Sydney test in 2008.

386– He was also involved in the highest partnership in Ind-Aus test matches with Ricky Ponting in 2012 in Adelaide.

Being the only all-rounder,RavindraJadeja can be the dark horse in the series. Here’s why-

27 is his Bowling average in 44 First Class matches and 52.96 is his Batting average in the same no. of matches. Since it’s a Home series, he can be dangerous as he is better than most of the players in current squad both in batting as well as bowling.

45.84Ashwin’s batting average in 12 Tests is next toPujara (58.53), Sachin (54.32), Sehwag (50.05) in the current team. Rahane is yet to debut and Ravindrajadejahas played only one Test match.

Dhoni’s batting average is even lower than that of Ashwin’s, his is 38.03in comparison to Ashwin’s45.84. Even in First Class cricket, Dhoni’s average is36.63 whereas Ashwin’s average is 38.39.

62.00AjinkyaRahane has the highest First Class batting avg amongst all the current players in the squad for Australia series, next comesPujara with 59.02.

239– More runs needed for Pujara to complete 1000 runs, if he does it in next 2 matches, he’ll surpass Gavaskar’s recordwho achieved it in 11 matches (21 innings). Pujara has till now played 9 matches (15 innings).

5– More wickets and PragyanOjha will complete 100 Test Wickets. He’ll become 2nd fastest Indian to achieve this feat after E Prassana (20 matches) and equal Anil Kumble’s record if he achieves it in 1st test.

4– Out of the 18 players in the squad for the series, only 4 Australian players have played in India before, Clarke in 2008 and 2010, Watson, Siddleand Johnson in 2010.

11More runs and Michael Clarke(90 Tests) will become 3rd fastest Australian to complete 7000 runs after Matthew Hayden(80 Tests) and Ricky Ponting (89 Tests).
